Not a spa of the town — a keeping of the body that has ridden

After the morning there is water. The house keeps a plunge, a room of steam, and a pair of hands that know a rider’s back from a visitor’s. This is not a spa as a resort prints it — no menu of facials, no hour sold as wellness. It is heat, cold, and rest, for those who have been in the saddle, or who stay and will be.

Write if you wish an hour after the work, or a morning when you do not ride. The baths are by appointment, as everything here is. Fees are confirmed in the letter. We do not print a price beside a treatment, because the house does not sell treatments in that sense.

A basin of cold water, used as riders have used water for a long time — after heat, after the school, when the joints ask for it. It is not a pool for swimming, and it is not a photograph. You go in, you come out, you are quiet.

A small room. Cedar, and steam, and a bench. An hour is enough. Those who have sat a long morning find that the steam undoes what the saddle has set. You are not talked through a ritual. You are left, and fetched when the hour is done.

Hands that know a rider — the back, the hip, the forearm that has held a rein. It is not a massage of the spa list. It is work on a body that has worked. Write if you prefer a woman or a man; the house will say who is here that week.

When it is taken

Usually after the morning in the yard, before the quiet table or before you take the lane. Those staying may take the steam in the evening. The plunge is not kept after dark in winter. If the ground has refused the ride, the baths may still be held — write, and the house will say.

What it is not

Not a spa of the county

There are no couples’ rituals, no gift vouchers in a drawer, no day of wellness sold to those who have not been received. You come because you ride here, or stay here. The water is for that body, not for a market of restoration.
